Frequently Asked Questions

Where do you get your materials?

Anywhere I can. Many times, friends and family give me old, rotting books and photos from basements or attics. I am obsessive about visiting flea markets, antique shops, and used goods stores like the Goodwill. If I am looking for something specific (such as maps from a specific time period/specific area), I shop on the internet, usually eBay.

Why do you list so sporadically?

While I wish I had more time to create, I have other important responsibilities that take up the majority of my time, first and foremost is my daughter. As she grows up and enters school I will have more time to dedicate to my artwork. Also, I love farm-life and have some animals that require time and attention, specifically a chunky, slightly grumpy pony.

I also have artwork-related commitments to galleries and commissions.

Is your art just paint on top of photographs?

No. If it were that easy I'd be whipping them out ten a day. Each of my paintings has at least five layers of collage and paints (or other art materials) and usually many more. The first layer is usually a collage using antique and/or vintage paper materials. On top of this goes a coating of acid-remover as most of the papers I use are not acid free to begin with. On top of that, depending on the piece, are layers of color-pencil, acrylic glazes, photo-transfers, and usually a top painting of oils and oil pastels. To prevent fading I usually use a UV resistant coating.

Each piece takes well over a day with drying times between layers.
Some larger pieces can take weeks.

Do you have a print available of "Enter Painting Title Here"?

Well, maybe, depending on which painting you are interested in.
If you see one of the paintings on my
gallery page and are interested in buying a print of that piece, please let me know. I may very well be able to have a print made of it.
